2009-2010 Sustainability Report of Efes is being announced..

The Goal of Efes is to consume 25 % less water, % 14 less energy and reduce the carbon footprint by 15 & until 2015.

Efes reduced its carbon footprint by 11 %, energy consumption by 12 % and water consumption by 13 %. Starting from 2008, Efes reduced water consumption by 13 % and energy consumption by 12 %. Reducing the weight of nonreturnable glass bottle by 17 %, Efes marked an 11 % improvement in carbon footprint, compared to 2007. The goal of Efes is to consume 25 % less water, 14 % less energy and to reduce carbon footprint by 15 percent until 2015.

Efes published the Sustainability Report explaining the 2009-2012 operation on December 21, 2011. The report details the achievements Efes had until today and its future goals. According to the report, the company reduced the amount of water used for producing beer by 13 % per liter and energy consumed by 12 %. Reducing the weight of nonreturnable glass bottle by 17 % in the last 2 years, Efes confirmed a decrease by 11 % in the carbon footprint.

The report also mentions the 2015 goals of the company. Accordingly, Efes will produce same amount of beer in 2015 by consuming 25 % less water. Energy consumption will be reduced by 14 % and carbon footprint will be decreased by 15 %. The report covering Turkey, Russia and Kazakhstan will cover the 5 countries where Efes has operations.

Alejandro Jimenez (CEO) commented on the report by saying “Change in our corporate mission is one of the most important gains achieved during this reporting period when our company completed 42nd business year. Our goal is to become the most popular beer company of all markets we operate. Accordingly, we addressed both our achievements and our future goals transparently on that report.”

A report, meeting expectations of all stakeholders, is prepared.


The sustainability report of Efes is approved as ‘GRI B’ according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guide that is recognized all around the world.

Efes prepared the report in a manner that will meet the expectations of all stakeholder groups. The aim was to create contents that can meet the expectations and information needs of the target audience, including employees, customers and consumers, investors and shareholders, dealer and distributors, media and public institutions, academic circles and nongovernmental organizations.

Efes intends to become a company creating value for everyone


Efes continues to work for achieving the goal of becoming a company that consumers less water, produces with less energy and emission, needs less packaging, supports talents, improves value chain as well as being responsible, supporting public development, being environment friendly and safe.

Beer consuming less water: Efes acknowledged that water resources should be used in a responsible manner in order to have sustainable future and carries on the lasting and continuous process of reducing water consumption. Although the amount of beer produced in 2010 is more than the amount in 2010, the company used 13 % less water per liter. The company created 13, 7 % less waste water. The level of water consumption achieved is 4,7 hl/hl and the level of waste water discharge is 13 %. The goal of Efes is to use 25 % less water for all operations and reach the level of 3,5 hl/hl in waste water discharge in 2015.

Beer produced with less energy and emission: During the period from 2007 until 2010, Efes reduced the energy consumed for beer and malt production processes by 12 % per liter and carbon footprint by 11 %. The 2015 goal of the company is to consume 14 % less energy per liter and to reduce carbon footprint per product by % 15.

Beer needing less packing: As one of the founding members of ÇEVKO (Environmental Protection and Packaging Waste Recovery and Recycling) Foundation, Efes reduced the weight of nonreturnable glass bottle by 17 % in the last 2 years and leads the recycling initiative in Turkey. With the goal of using less packing materials and more environment friendly packages, the company will evaluate the environmental impacts of current packing portfolio with the Environmental Impact Reduction Workgroup.

Beer supporting the talents: During the reporting period, Efes focused on professional training, cultural diversity and development of various approaches, practices and programs in internal communication. Accordingly the company will go on offering a work environment ensuring motivated, happy talents focused on corporate goals and work to protect the talents as well as creating new ones.

Beer improving the value chain: As a result of R&D studies conducted for almost 25 years, the company registered 15 new barley and 7 new hops seed. During the reporting period, the company developed a new barley seed cultivated in arid climates and created new plantation opportunities. Maintaining an agricultural support program is Turkey, Efes started similar operations in Russia. Efes aims at further improving and sustaining the business development practices of the value chain.

Responsible beer: Efes launched new projects, such as Alehouse Improvement Projects, Conversation Avenues, Beer Gardens, Travelling Beer Museum, for the purpose of improving beer culture, as well as improving its own sales systems and distribution network. It launched a new campaign against drinking and driving in Turkey. The company will go on performing activities aimed at creating a consumer circle valuing the beer culture and conscious consumption.

Beer supporting social developments: In addition to local supply and employment, Efes continues to support education, healthcare, culture-art, sports and tourism. Eastern Anatolia Tourism Development Project (EATDP) and Tourism Delegates Program can be named as the activities performed in 2009, 2010. In the future, the company will continue to be a global citizen and a responsible neighbor of the societies where it operates.

Environment friendly and safe beer: Offering employee trainings for improving operational safety, investing in waste and odor management, measurement and control fields, Efes will go on improving its health and safety related activities. It will minimize the environmental impacts by using state of the art technology.
